Paul Rowley and John Collier from Penny Mix Films just sent this
trailer from their upcoming film "A
night at the Museum". Starring the UK equivalent of
Gi Joe: Action Man, their film depicts an "Action Force Team"
working as security guards in a very mysterious Toy Museum.
Formed
in May 2006, Penny Mix Films is a British film studio made up
of Paul Rowley and John Collier. "The
Good, The Bad and The Plastic" is their first confirmed
film in the Festival. Mr. Rowley directs this hilarious and quirky
Western, a one of a kind venture that includes lots of vintage
figures. Hold onto your hats cowboys!
New
films by director John Kiely were added to the festival's line
up. "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Drive",
"the Duel" and "Bad
Ass Cyber Chicks Part 1" are three remarkable stop-motion
films shot in Bridgeport, CT. Using beautiful set designs and
eye-catching action scenes, Mr. Kiely creates a realistic, believable
1:6th world.
"TIME"
and the "OC Police" are
two new confirmed films from London, England. Both animations
were filmed with a Philips ToUcam by director Omer Younas and
the films are quite different from one another. TIME is loosely
based on the Metal Gear Solid game, while OC Police is an anime
style short intro which combines three types of animation: Drawn,
Stop-motion and CG.
Our
first South American submission comes from Alex Queiroz all the
way from Minas Gerais, Brazil. "WAR
- The White Movie" is a bold political statement against
the Bush administration. Hell breaks loose in this marvelous addition
to the festival.
Made
in 1991 and salvaged from VHS, "GI
Joe Street War" is a B&W stop-motion action film
put together when filmmaker James Burke was only 17. James used
a Fisher Price PXL-2000 and 2 VHS VCRs. Another fantastic addition
to the festival.
Director
Jon Daniel Ligon uses his childhood friends to bring the madness
of war to the big screen. "The Real
Adventures of GI Joe" is an award winning post-9/11
film set in a San Francisco backyard. Very taunting.
Another
fabulous addition to the festival's line up is "Operation:
Last Broadcast" by filmmakers Kevin Jones (animator)
and Derek Moench (editor). The film was originally created for
Episode 6 of Animation Creation, an animated variety show on cable
television in Perkasie, Pennsylvania.
Filmed
in Los Angeles, CA between 1978 and 1982, "The
Adventures of GI Joe" by filmmaker Mark L. Johnson
is a classic stop-motion animation that we are thrilled to confirm.
Mr. Johnson's film features some awesome vintage figures and an
action packed story line.
The
1st GI JOE Stop-Motion Film Festival is going to be held Thursday,
September 20th 2007. Just a week earlier than previously posted.
Deadline for submission is still the same (Postmarked 20th July
2007). Conflicting event schedules are to be blamed for the changes.
Write it down on your calendars: September 20th 2007.
"Friendly
Fire", a film by upcoming filmmaker Andrew Fleckenstein
is a funny, if not hilarious addition to the festival. Shot when
Mr. Fleckenstein was only 14 years old, "Friendly Fire"
tells a story of two troubled soldiers in Germany, circa 1945.
BlackFeet
Films is an independent studio that began in 2004 and is run by
three brothers, Andrew, Nicholas, and Eric Deegear. The 2006 ANI
award winner "G.I.Joes",
is a great animated short film that has no true storyline and
no dialogue, the action tells it all.
A
must have for any stop-motion film festival, "Covert
Operatives" by Jeff Gurwood and Anthony Carbone is
officially in the Festival!!! Covert Operatives is a stop-motion-animated
action film with G.I. Joe action figures as the main characters.
It takes playing with toys to a whole different level.
March
26th 2007
